09. Soheila Esfahani (Waterloo, ON) - Cultured Pallet: KW

Kitchener City Hall, 200 King Street West, Kitchener.

Soheila Esfahani's Cultured Pallets: KW is a transient installation constructed from stacks of approximately 250 recycled wooden shipping pallets. The installation grows out of the artist's ongoing process of marking shipping pallets with an email address (culturedpallet@yahoo.com) and a variety of motifs and designs. The cultured pallets are then sent back into circulation.  The artist completes the project by tracking the pallets after they leave the exhibition and engaging in correspondence with the individuals who find them. The various designs and motifs used for marking the pallets in this project are collected in various locations within Kitchener-Waterloo.

Soheila K. Esfahani grew up in Tehran, Iran , and moved to Canada in 1992. She received her BA in Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo and her MFA from the University of Western Ontario . She was a semi-finalist for the 2004 New Canadian Painting Competition through RBC Investments and the Canadian Art Foundation.  Esfahani’s work is represented in public and private collections including the Canada Council’s Art Bank. She works from her studio at Kitchener ’s artist–run centre, Globe Studios.
