Events

Between biennials, CAFKA is very active producing and co-producing a number of special events.  CAFKA’s events are intended to facilitate connections between people, to introduce our organization to the community and to initiate a critical dialogue around the issues of contemporary art in public spaces.

CAFKA produces a bi-annual video cabaret we affectionately call "I Heart Video Art," a social event around the presentation of some of the most interesting and lively examples of contemporary video art.  CAFKA also participates in community arts initiatives such as the Steel Rails Sessions and FEST 3, where a number of cultural organizations collaborate to create memorable cross-disciplinary events.

Mammalian Diving Reflex presents Faith Exchange, an afternoon-long event, bringing together faith organizations within the Waterloo Region to share their views. Mammalian Diving Reflex invites participation from all faith-based organizations: any organization that holds religious or worship services, or is affiliated with a religious denomination or house of worship. Participants will be offered a small area with a table where they will be free to promote themselves, their views and their organization. In the centre of the space, there will be an “Area of Participation,” an area dedicated to one activity that all participants can agree upon. This can be anything, faith-related or not: prayer, tea-drinking, soccer, discussion, etc. As long as we all agree. This will be the artistic aspect of the project: What fun activity can we all agree upon across all of our different faiths? Pre-registration is required. Faith groups wishing to participate should contact cafka@cafka.org.
