Events
Between biennials, CAFKA is very active producing and co-producing a number of special events. CAFKA’s events are intended to facilitate connections between people, to introduce our organization to the community and to initiate a critical dialogue around the issues of contemporary art in public spaces.
CAFKA produces a bi-annual video cabaret we affectionately call "I Heart Video Art," a social event around the presentation of some of the most interesting and lively examples of contemporary video art. CAFKA also participates in community arts initiatives such as the Steel Rails Sessions and FEST 3, where a number of cultural organizations collaborate to create memorable cross-disciplinary events.
Steel Rails: Z Train by Jillian McDonald, 24-09-2010

Title: Z Train.
1. Need as many zombies as possible
a. For Thurs film shoot
b. For Friday event.
2. Crew
a. 2 to help film on Thurs (2 will do that day)
b. 2 to help with make-up on Friday
3. Screen videos: Horror Makeup, Apocalypse Zombie, Red Rum, Field of the Dead and Undead (total: 36 mins).
4. End of the last video breaks up and we see train footage: zombies at window, zombies in distance, screeching, lightning, blood dripping
a. (If I have some volunteers (say 4) then yes I can film that very fast: crew drips the blood as I shoot, crew cleans up as we move to next).
5. Train stops at St Jacobs. As people re-board train, "train footage" plays again.
6. Zombies come from the distance.
7. Train seems to stall, and four harried actors board the train, frantic. They turn on the "screen" it is a broadcast telling them about the zombie outbreak (as in night of the living dead or any other zombie film).
8. Two zombies on the train (hidden among the audience) come at them and the actors manage to get them off.
