CAFKA - Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area is seeking submissions for its biennial exhibition of contemporary art in the public spaces of the Region of Waterloo in June 2018. The biennial exhibition is curated by CAFKA’s Program Committee, which will consider submission proposals as part of its curatorial research.

All submissions must be received by midnight on March 15, 2017.

CAFKA is inviting proposals for new works that engage the public and diverse audiences. The CAFKA Program Committee wants to know what artists are thinking about and what drives their practice.

CAFKA pays artist fees of $2,000 CAD for new work, in addition to negotiable expenses. Video and one-time performance fees are paid in accordance with the CARFAC fee schedule.

Please note: The CAFKA Biennial is an exhibition of art in public spaces. We do not encourage proposals that rely on the characteristics of galleries (controlled lighting, low ceilings, hanging walls, security presence etc.). We are seeking artists who are able to respond to the specific features of the local urban landscape and culture. Projects proposed for outdoor public spaces should take into consideration the elements as well as the potential for vandalism and liability. Please refer to the CAFKA.16 Scrapbook for examples of exhibition locations.
