Big Ideas in Art and Culture: Krzysztof Wodiczko
Musagetes and CAFKA - Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area presented internationally renowned media artist Krzysztof Wodiczko as part of the Big Ideas in Art and Culture Lecture Series in Kitchener, Ontario on Thursday, October 3rd, in the Rotunda of the Kitchener City Hall.
Krzysztof Wodiczko (born Warsaw, Poland, 1943) is known for his large-scale slide and video projections on architectural facades and monuments around the world, as well as his nomadic instruments and survival vehicles for migrant workers, the homeless, and war veterans. War, conflict, trauma, memory, and communication in the public sphere are some of the major themes of his body of work.
In this lecture Krzysztof Wodiczko focuses on his 'instruments' to facilitate survival, communication, and healing, for homeless people and immigrants. These therapeutic devices, which he envisions as technological prosthetics or tools for empowering and extending human abilities, address physical disability as well as economic hardship, emotional trauma, and psychological distress.
