CAFKA is seeking an Audiovisual Technician and Videographer, and an Education and Public Programs Coordinator

Founded in 2001, CAFKA (Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener + Area) is an artist-run organization that produces a biennial exhibition of public art in Waterloo Region. Through the biennial and related lectures, tours, workshops, and special events, CAFKA animates the Region of Waterloo's urban environments, and enables our community to learn about contemporary art and participate in its making.

CAFKA is seeking an Audiovisual Technician and Videographer, and an Education and Public Programs Coordinator.

1. CAFKA seeks an Audiovisual Technician and Videographer from approximately May 31 to August 20, 2021, to edit some short documentary videos for the 2021 biennial, as well as set up spaces for good sound and video capture, and/or video screenings. If you love contemporary art, making videos, tinkering with live audio, or solving computer problems, this could be the summer job for you.

Areas of Responsibility

Under the direction and guidance of CAFKA’s Program Manager and General Manager, the Videographer will:

-work with the education team to help produce short interpretative videos for each of the art installations (approximately 14 videos)

-work the the program team to video document art installations and conduct interviews with artists

-work with the marketing team to produce digital marketing materials

-exhibition documentation and event photography

-set up audio and video systems for live stream performances and recordings

-add closed captioning to videos

-post content on social media (YouTube) and other sites

-assist with website maintenance and virtual technology

-set up systems and gather participation metrics/data

-perform other administrative duties and assist with special projects as required and assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

-Applicants must be between 15 to 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.

-Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and must fulfill all the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program.

-Relevant post-secondary education with a strong understanding and competency in creating branded promotional video content, including camera work, lighting, audio, etc.

-Knowledge of best practices and experience creating content for social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram (including Reels & Stories), LinkedIn and Twitter.

-Experience using Adobe Rush, Premier, or other video editing software

-Access to your own phone, digital SLR and video camera(s) is an asset

-Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

-Strong interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.

-Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and access to reliable vehicle is required.

-Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings, weekends).

-Able to lift approximately 25 pounds.

-Additional languages an asset.

Note: Due to Covid-19 we are working and providing programs both in person and virtually. CAFKA follows the advice and requirements as set by Provincial and Region of Waterloo Health directives.

Salary: $18.00 per hour, 35 hours per week

CAFKA is seeking an Education and Public Programs Coordinator from approximately May 31 to August 20, 2021, to develop interpretive content for the 2021 biennial, and to oversee the online programs and videos that we are developing to adapt to pandemic restrictions. If you love contemporary art, teaching, and building community connections, this could be the summer job for you.

Areas of Responsibility

Under the direction and guidance of CAFKA’s Program Manager and General Manager, the Education Outreach Program Coordinator will:

-work with the program team to prepare and deliver content for tour guides, the exhibition guide, and interviews with artists

-work with the education committee to prepare and deliver interpretive activities and materials (activity book)

-assist in developing and delivering educational interpretative videos

-help facilitate virtual live performances, lectures, webinars, panel discussions and other online events and meetings

-assist with digital and web based content management (keeping information about schedules and registrations up to date)

-assist with documentation and online outreach/engagement (website updates, social media, etc.)

-organize tours (i.e. bike rally)

-perform other administrative duties and special projects as required and assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

-Applicants must be between 15 to 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.

-Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and must fulfill all the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program.

-Relevant post-secondary education

experience preparing and delivering education programs to youth and/or adults

-Experience preparing scripts for videos and/or art interpretation tours

-Comfortable presenting to audiences (in person or on screen)

experience using EventBrite, Canada Helps, YouTube, Zoom webinars

-Experience video editing an asset

-Access to your own phone and computer is required

-Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
