two individuals interacting with sculpture

Christine's work opts for a physical interaction between visitors to propose ways of nurturing a sense of community, rather than diminishing it. Interrupting the logic of architectural and institutional environments, she uses permeable materials to provide a new dynamic space that is dependent on human presence to navigate and activate it. This temporary space, or intrusion in space, ends up enacting a self that exists only in relation to others opening up the possibility for an exchange between interrelated, embodied subjects.

Christine Shaw is a Regina born artist and curator now living and working in Toronto. She was recently the Programming Coordinator for Neutral Ground artist-run centre and gallery and is now a Phd candidate in Social and Political Thought at York University. She completed her MFA at the University of Western Ontario and has since been developing participatory environments and architectural modifications within galleries and public places. Christine wishes to thank the Saskatchewan Arts Board for supporting this project.
