Bylaw is a sculpture which explores the nature of how we partition our world. Its location in the center of a public plaza and the act of involving City Council emphasize the political nature of these divisions. In its broadest sense the work encourages the audience to explore how we move through the world, places we may and may not go and the various ways and means of communicating those limits.
Robert Sprachman is a Toronto based sculptor who specializes in site-specific public sculpture. A graduate of The University of Manitoba and The Ontario College of Art and Design, Sprachman has established an international reputation for creating works of art which speak about the relationship of mankind with nature. Drawing inspiration largely from site, his goal is to create a sense of place and meaning in what might otherwise be just another urban locale.
