Industrial Proposition is a free-standing sculpture using newsprint from past editions of the Kitchener Record layered and laminated onto a large steel door. Hand-carved and hand-printed components will be embedded into the newsprint layers that parallel and pay homage to pre-mass industrial production. At the focal point of the piece, will be a scaled up image of a specific article extracted from an early edition (circa 1900) of the Kitchener Record which details industrial advances of the day and includes a solicitation for female workers needed for newly expanding areas of industrial production. This work will reflect on the industrial development and its impact on society as it captures a slice of local history.
